Winter Days

Winter Fun by JZL Creates

Today when I spotted these images on Etsy, I was so reminded of my childhood and the hours spend frolicking in the snow. When I lived in Austria I loved going for sled rides or speed around the ice showing off the latest moves I had learned .

Nowadays if I want to see snow, I have to make a two-hour drive into the mountains or get on a plane and fly somewhere. All ok and fine, but I do miss just looking out the window and seeing snow. My garden is decorated for the holidays now, I have to admit it is still strange to see Christmas decor right next to swaying palm trees.  That’s living in California for you :)

So for this year, I am thinking of making a day trip to the mountains. Maybe an old-timer like me can still find a sled and a forgiving mountain on which to sled down without breaking all bones! Do you have any fond childhood memories that are related to winter?

Enzie, I grew up in Buffalo, NY and your gorgeous skate painting reminds me of all the fond memories of skating in the ponds behind our house…until “the boys” came to play hockey and kicked us off the pond!

LOL – I know that feeling! I am glad that my painting reminded you of those carefree days. We have an ice skating ring here and I keep looking at it. I so want to get on it and circle around to the music, but I can’t afford to break an arm and not paint!

I feel honored to be a part of your blog Enzie! I grew up (and still live) in Minnesota. Skating, sledding, and making snowmen and snow forts were all a part of Winter that we loved. Sometimes the snow drifts were so high that we could dig tunnels all over the yard. We wouldn’t come inside until our toes and noses were freezing! Once inside, we would warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and buttered toast. I still love Winter…the more snow we get the happier I am!

Each of these images remind me of winters in Illinois. Many a late afternoon after grade school we would meet up at the baseball field which was flooded and iced for ice skating. Good memories!

Isn’t it amazing how a simple flooded field was enough for hours of entertainment?! Thank you for sharing your memories with me.

Yes, every year I try to do a series of winter related paintings. I sold this one the same year I painted it, but it is still available in print form.
